06/hr-up based on experience Full-Time, schedule varies 1st shift-7am-3pm 2nd shift-3pm-11pm 3rd shift-11pm-7am Job Purpose The Resident Counselor is responsible for providing a therapeutic milieu within the program setting.
The primary purpose of your job is to provide direct care intervention, support and attention to ensure the physical and emotional needs of all children are appropriately addressed.
The Youth Counselor supervises the activities of clients and works as part of a team to maintain a safe and secure environment for all clients that promotes growth and development.
Duties & Responsibilities Responsible for assisting residents in the development of positive social skills by:
(1) modeling constructive behavior and interaction; (2) assisting residents to express their concerns and resolve problem with both peers and adults:
and, (3) providing crisis management and de-escalation when aggressive behavior occurs.
(daily) Supervise clients during activities such as chores, studying, recreation and leisure activities, life skills training, cooking, dinner cleanup, and bedtime routine.
(daily) Responsible for teaching clients basic life skills, as appropriate per age and programming.
(daily) Responsible for transporting clients to appointments and activities in the community.
(daily) Maintains Safe Crisis Management (SCM) certification and participates in SCM intervention with clients as needed to ensure the safety of the individual client and the safety of the milieu.
(daily) Assure the provision of nutritionally appropriate meals by following the menu plans of the Dietary/Residential Assistant in preparing and making meals and snacks available to residents, as necessary.
Participate, implement and evaluate routine and special activities provided on-site and within the community as a means of providing residents opportunities for personal growth.
(daily) Responsible for administering all medications, treatments or monitoring of orders for residents.
Including reporting any resident resistance, unusual reactions, errors in administration or any special concerns as appropriate to Supervisors.
(daily) Responsible for maintaining the staff office in a clean, organized and efficient manner by keeping office files neat and up-to-date, providing prepared resident admission files and baskets, providing sufficient copies of office forms, supplies, etc.
, and routinely reporting office supply needs.
(daily) Responsible for documenting resident progress, including any negative behaviors expressed, resident concerns, significant incidents, unusual occurrences and/or emergency events in a timely and accurate manner.
(daily) Responsible for coordinating home visits for clients with the Treatment Coordinator, client and family (as needed).
Qualifications A Bachelor's degree in a human service field (Psychology, Social Work, Counseling) is preferred.
A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
Ability to participate in Safe Crisis Management (SCM) is required.
Experience working with recovery based treatment plans and behaviorally oriented programs preferred.
Valid driver's license and clear driving record is required.
Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Must possess the wherewithal to professionally interact with clients who may not be open and receptive to instruction.
Must be able to maintain good relations and employee morale.
Must not pose a threat to the health of safety of other individuals in the workplace.
Must possess the ability to establish, implement and maintain effective working and public relationships.
Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures, etc.

Must possess the ability to assimilate information from a variety of sources, analyze information and make recommendations to the Unit Supervisor.
Must possess the ability to drive a passenger van.
Working conditions Works in office area(s) as well as in other community settings (e.

Moves intermittently during working hours.
Is subject to frequent interruptions.
Is involved with clients, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc.

Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset clients, family members, personnel, and visitors.
Communicates with the medical staff, nursing personnel, and other department supervisors.
Works beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
Is subject to on call, crisis intervention supports.
Is involved in community/civic health matters/projects as appropriate.
Attends and participates in continuing educational programs.
Maintains a liaison with the clients, their families, support departments, etc.

Physical requirements Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
Must function independently, and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with clients, personnel, and support agencies.
Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, emotionally upset, and, at times, hostile people within the facility.
Must be able to participate in Safe Crisis Management (SCM).
May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of clients during emergency situations.
Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 50 pounds to a minimum height of four feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 100 feet.
Must be able to carry supplies and lift small children up to 40 lbs.
Must possess the ability to drive a passenger van.
