Safety Specialist

Purpose -
As a key member of the Environmental Health and Safety Team, the candidate would coordinate project site safety and accident prevention programs for a heavy civil construction job sites. Candidate will accomplish this by reporting to Environmental Health and Safety leaders for the implementation of site-specific company policies and procedures, regular site audits, investigate incidents at the site(s), complete accident reports, lead training, log daily submitted reports specific to the assigned jobsite(s), and use data to make improvements to the jobsite and company programs.
Duties and Responsibilities -


  • Review and maintain the company's Environmental Health & Safety Program, to include a formally written plan that is updated based on company needs and changing safety requirements.
  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state, local and industry specific safety, health, and environmental regulations.
  • Maintain all safety related documentation
  • Enforce the use of safety equipment/clothing as required by OSHA and company site specific safety regulations.
  • Monitor programs for compliance with existing and new OSHA Standards; analyzes and reviews policies and programs.
  • Develops and reviews recommended procedures and methods based on reports of incidents, accidents, near misses.
  • Prepares reports and maintains control of records related to safety and health programs.
  • Develop, administer, and lead in all annual EHS training.
  • Conducts job site visits, inspections, and audits weekly.
  • Measures and evaluates effectiveness of safety program, using established goals.
  • Prepares reports, analyzes data, and makes recommendations for improving safety.
  • Develops and manages safety field safety recognition programs.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience -
  • A current certification from Board Certified Safety Professionals at the Construction Safety Health Technician (CHST) or higher required.
  • 10 years' experience of general safety and investigating incidents required.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations, policies, and standards.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • A bachelor's degree or 5 years' experience in construction safety field.
  • Prior experience in health & safety or related fields of construction.
  • OSHA 510 and 500 training.
  • Internal auditing.

  • Comfortable discussing safety behavior and performance opportunities with employees and leaders across the organization.
  • Understanding of construction projects and OSHA Standard 1926
  • Ability to focus on multiple tasks, complete projects, and paperwork on time.
  • Strong work ethic and high degree of initiative.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in conducting accident investigations and writing reports.
