Serves as a mate of a diesel powered towboat (4600 HP and 150 feet in lenght) and operates a diesel powered work boat (700HP) and when on duty directs others engaged in towing operations and/or snagging and dredging and river inspection over various stretches of the Ohio River and its navigable tributaries operations on the Green, Kentucky, and Licking Rivers.
SCREEN OUT: To qualify, no specific length of experience or training is required, however, you must be able to demonstrate through information provided in your resume that you possess sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work of a First Mate, Towboat without more than normal supervision:
Operation of diesel-powered towboat (over 4600 HP and over 150 feet in length)
Operation of smaller work boat (700 HP)
Work practices (includes keeping things neat, clean and in order)
Ability to safely pilot a variety of navigational vessels.
Ability to interpret instructions and specifications, related to boat navigation and repair.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Incumbent is required to stand, stoop, bend, stretch, crouch, climb, and
work in cramped or uncomfortable positions. Incumbent stands on feet for extended periods,
works in extreme hot and cold climate, and frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 50
pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Operates boat from an enclosed pilothouse. Subject to hazards
inherent to floating plant operations including but not limited to: danger of falling overboard;
slips, trips and falls on wet or icy decks; injury from moving machinery; and injury from
mooring lines. Works inside and outside and is subject to climatic extreme, loud noises, cuts,
bruises, and possibly severe injury from heavy equipment. Worker is exposed to dirt, grease;
burns; skin irritations from acids, fluids, and lubricants; fumes; mud; water.
