Job Description We are: CNET Reviews. We give the most comprehensive, timely, and engaging technology buying advice on the planet. We work with a team of more than 80 hotshot journalists around the world to hunt down the best tech, then we tell our readers and viewers how to incorporate that tech into their lives. We live tech, and then we write and produce compelling, informative product reviews and video shows.
You are: The next big name in consumer tech reviews. As part of CNET''s growing Appliance Reviews editorial team, you will be responsible for reviewing smart home and consumer appliance products with thoughtful analysis and razor wit. Additional responsibilities include writing technology news and original commentary, creating slideshows, confidently presenting products in videos, and developing buying advice and features. We''re looking for an independent thinker, a creative writer, and a natural storyteller who is passionate about technology and loves the idea of bringing that passion to others.
Other duties include cultivating working relationships with vendors, steering content through the editing and production process, securing products to review, and developing a following on CNET and on social media. Prior on-camera experience is not essential, but the position will require filming First Look videos and occasional media appearances. Some travel is necessary, particularly to industry events, trade shows, and product launches where you''ll be required to write news stories, appear in product videos, and shoot photos.
A successful Appliance Reviews editor brings passion and creativity to the job every day. You will:
Write and pitch consumer tech reviews and appropriate companion content
Write scripts and star in videos to accompany your posts
Maintain an active and engaging presence across major social media platforms
Maintain and cultivate contacts with all beat-appropriate product vendors
Support colleagues across CNET s Reviews and News divisions with your expertise
Become an expert technology photographer
Travel as necessary to industry events and trade shows
Required Qualifications Experience writing about consumer technology (please submit clips or links)
Intense (some might say unhealthy) love of technology
Strong writing skills
Familiarity with online publishing
Knowledge of basic HTML
Photography and on-camera video experience a plus
Detail-oriented, critically-minded, naturally curious
BA/BS or equivalent experience
Job will be located in our Louisville, KY office
Must successfully pass a background check
