Voluntary Services Assistant

Working under the direct supervision of the Chief, Voluntary Service, the VSA assists in all aspects of the development, coordination, and management of Voluntary Service program, especially the Concierge and Student Volunteer programs. This individual collects raw statistical data and other data to process information into a wide variety of reports in order to integrate local VAMC volunteer activities with the community network. The VSA serves as liaison between the Department of Veterans Affairs and community agencies in disseminating general information about the volunteer program, recruitment, and the recognition of contributions. He/she co-writes and/ or edits the Voluntary Service newsletter, program documents and reports for special project as necessary. He/she continuously works to keep program documents and forms updated and designs new forms to enhance effectiveness of the service. The VSA handles issues as they arise, daily operations, and consults with the Voluntary Service Officer (Program Manager) if policies/procedures requires revision. Work Schedule:

Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note:

Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Evaluating volunteers for an organization to ensure all legal and regulatory requirements are met; overseeing a training program either formal or on-the-job; collecting program data to provide statistical data and reports for management input; assists service management with the development, administration, and implementation of new policies, standards, and plans; maintain up-to-date knowledge regarding requirements necessary to write, edit, and revise handbooks, memoranda, and volunteer assignment guides. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:
Administration and Management Problem Solving Interpersonal Skills Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note:
A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
